For almost 30 years, the singers of Mouezh Paotred Breizh – from the 5 historical departments of the region – bring Breton culture to life through polyphonic choral singing.
They carry within them, with pride and generosity, a history, a heritage, a territory and convictions. Above all, they speak of the beauty and richness of the Breton language, the ultimate link that binds them all to their land and to their ancestors.
Directed since its creation by Jean-Marie Airault and accompanied by some traditional musicians, Mouezh Paotred Breizh proposes a singular journey in Brittany to share strong moments of emotion and energy.
It is to answer the Welsh invitation of the “World Choir”, to participate in a
large gathering of men’s choirs in Atlanta (USA), that a men’s choir was born in 1993
in Brittany under the leadership of Jean-Marie Airault and Jean-Pierre Prémel.
This choir is called ” Mouezh Paotred Breizh ” the voice of the guys from Brittany.
Mouezh Paotred Breizh draws its repertoire mainly from the traditional
breton chant (sacred and secular songs) and from Wales, but also from
songs brought back from his meetings with other men’s choirs and creations. It combines
tradition and modernity by opening up to young composers. It honors the translators or
poets like Vincent Séité, Job Séité, Job an Irien, Xavier Grall, Patrig Corlay, Jean-Pierre Boulic, and also Breton composers and arrangers like René Abjean, Yves
Ribis, P-Y. Moign, Yves Elégoet, Gwenaël Riou, Goulven Airault…
The originality of this male choir is to be a regional choir. Its 57
singers come from the 5 historical departments of Brittany (and from Paris..).
He sings “a capella” but is also accompanied by instruments: piano, organ, bombard,
Celtic harp, uillean-pipes, saxophone…The choir is directed since its creation by Jean-Marie Airault,
Mouezh Paotred Breizh is an ambassador of Breton culture through its
meetings. He participates each year in numerous concerts and festivals in Brittany, in
France and abroad.
It is now recognized as one of the best vocal ensembles of Breton expression
and has been crowned six times.
Mouezh Paotred Breizh rehearses once a month, the whole day, in Central Brittany.
