Brittany Children’s Choir

The Manécanterie du Chœur d’Enfants de Bretagne, founded in 1985 by Jean Ruault, has set itself the mission of fulfilling the ancestral functions of European manécanteries: singing and celebrating beauty, offering every child the opportunity and the means to rise socially, humanely and spiritually. Hundreds of young people have passed through the benches of this institution, which has changed ́the lives of many of them. After the retirement of its founder, the association unfortunately quickly lost its members and activities.

In 2019, the association was re-founded by four former members of the choir, including tenor Kaëlig Boché (First Prize from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, Adami Classical Revelation 2017). They are committed to this new project for new generations and to promoting and passing on the knowledge of their native region. He entrusts the musical direction toJean-Michel Noël (founder in 1989 of the Maı̂trise de Bretagne at the conservatoire in Rennes) and puts together a local team to bring together 3 choral groups in the area, a first!

In 2021, the association launched Kanadenn.com, its platform for promoting the heritage of Breton composers. It produced its first audiovisual productions, accessible free of charge to all. These provide a foundation for projects and learning for the amateur choristers who work on the recordings, as well as discovery and cultural mediation sessions with the professional guest artists. These activities enable them to get to grips with their region’s classical musical heritage at an early age. This recording is part of this process of transmission between our professional opera artists and the young members of the Chœur d’Enfants de Bretagne.

You can also find the first national recording of the Kanom Nouel – Chantons Noël! choir, as well as the first world recording of the Douze Chants de Bilitis by composer Rita Strohl (born in Lorient), produced by the association and published by Editions Hortus.
