The program
The objective of this first level of training can be defined from the 2 axes below:
- To give the means to produce a correct harmonization of a melody to be sung by a choir of at least 3 voices (harmonize = to provide a melody with a homorhythmic accompaniment composed of nicely written melodic lines).
- At the end of these sessions, the trainees will be able to harmonise a melody whatever the mode in which it is written.
What level 1 will not do :
We remind you that this is level 1 of the harmonisation training. At this level, the emphasis is on simple and effective harmonisation of the melodies in all the modes that exist in Breton music. Other aspects will be covered later in the Level 2 training.
- Use chords with more than 3 different notes, modulations and borrowings, ascending and descending minor modes, delays, embroideries, appogiaturas, harmonic steps, foreign modes, the complete theory of chord numbering... (this will be for level 2)
- Learn to write down a melody you hear.
- Dealing with arrangements.
